How to landscape a petanque field
|
|
The official international meassurements of a petanque field are 4 x 15 meters.
If you are making a petanque field in your own private garden with room
for 6 players or less you can make the field a little smaller: 2,5 x 12
meters. If you a planning af petanque field for more than 6 players it could be
an advantage to increase the width of field to 6 meters - this way you
will be able to have 2 games at the same time with upto 12 players.
We recommend that you encircle the field with a border made of wood or
stone to keep the balls infield.
During the first year the field has to adapt to the groundsoil - hereafter
you can add some more pebbles to keep the surface of the field intact and smooth.
Below you will find an illustration that helps you build your own petanque
field. If there are some of the materials that are hard to get - the use of
alternative materials will also be okay.

Himberg is a norweigan stone flour product that will give you a hard
foundation for the field. Put a layer of approx. 5 cm thickness - water the
layer of himber and stamp/vibrate thoroughly.
Hard core, unwashed if possible in the size 0-20 mm. If you don´t want
to use lysit - hard core can be used as top layer. If you use recycled hard core
- you should be aware that it has a tendency to adapt more rapidly giving the
field a very hard soil. Put approx. 15-20 cm thickness of hard core on the field
and stamp/vibrate thoroughly.
Singles is used to speed drain the field and is put on in layer of
approx. 15 cm - stamp thoroughly.
Foundation is made on a smooth surface. If the surface contains a
large amount of clay it would be a very good idea to install a drainpipe
to lead the rain of the field in rainy seasons.
